McDonald's reopens one North East restaurant for takeaway customers - and it's in Durham

A McDonald's in County Durham is among the first of the chain's restaurants to reopen for takeaway customers.

The McDonald's at Roadchef's Durham services, on the A1M, reopened to walk-up takeaway customers yesterday, along with 10 other McDonald's Roadchef sites.

Previously, McDonald's had only reopened drive-thru lanes and delivery services since it closed all sites at the beginning of the coronavirus lockdown.

Social distancing measures are in place, including limits on the number of customers allowed in. Seating areas and customer toilets will remain closed, children's toys and crayons have been removed and customers are asked to sanitise their hands on arrival.

A reduced menu will be served for the time being.

McDonald's says it will reopen more of its restaurants for takeaway from June 24.
