McDonald's issue statement after member of staff 'punched' at restaurant

McDonald's has issued a statement after a member of staff was reportedly 'punched' at the fast food chain's Portishead restaurant on Thursday.

The incident is said to have happened during the afternoon with police called to the scene.

It was reported on social media that the member of staff was attacked by a member of the public. Avon and Somerset Police have said that enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "The safety and security of our people and customers is our absolute priority. Our team reacted quickly by alerting the police and we are supporting them with their investigation.

"We do not tolerate any form of violence or abuse and have offered our full support to our colleagues involved in this incident."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We received a report at about 2.20pm this afternoon (Thursday, September 29) that a man had assaulted a member of staff at McDonald's in Portishead before leaving the scene.

“No physical injuries were reported.

"Officers attended and CCTV enquiries are being conducted.”
