Shortly after two-time reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen won his second consecutive Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, he was met with a smattering of boos from the crowd.
The Red Bull driver claimed his third win in his last five starts despite starting in ninth place on the starting grid.
Some fans, however, apparently aren’t fans of Verstappen—presumably because he’s dominating the circuit. He had the perfect response to those fans.
“This is something for me which is absolutely fine as long as I stand on the top. That’s for me the most important,” Verstappen said after Sunday’s race. “I take the trophy home, and they go back to their houses and they can have a nice evening.”

The 25-year-old is accustomed to hearing boos. And since Red Bull has won all five F1 races so far this season—teammate Sergio Pérez has captured the other two—Verstappen has heard the boos often of late.
“I think if I will be driving in the back nobody will be even doing anything in terms of reaction,” Verstappen said. “I think it’s normal when you’re winning, and they don’t like who is winning.”
The Formula 1 season continues with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, on May 21, followed by the Monaco Grand Prix on May 28. The circuit returns to the United States with stops in Austin, Texas, in October and Las Vegas in November.
