Max George says he's 'popped the big question' during relatable date night with Maisie Smith

Max George cheekily told fans he had 'popped the big question' to Maise Smith as they enjoyed a very relatable date night. The couple were seen ditching all the usual glam of their celebrity lives and opted to keep it casual as they headed out in Manchester after recently jetting back from Istanbul.

Former EastEnders actress Maisie made the trip with Max, who shot to fame as part of boyband The Wanted, as he watched his beloved football club Manchester City win the Champions League over Inter Milan, meaning Pep Guardiola's side secured the historic treble having already won the Premier League and FA Cup.

Sharing a string of pictures on Instagram from the Atatürk Olympic Stadium where the Champions League final was held last Saturday (June 10), Max declared to his 373K followers: "The greatest night of my life."

But it appears he could have had equalled that if he had infact popped the question to Maisie - but he was just joking. In a video shared to Max's TikTok, the singer and his other half, who he met while taking part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 before romance blossomed two years later, were seen heading to Frankie and Benny's.

The loved-up couple were seen dining on a feast of items including Calzone pizzas, ice cream sundaes, a Purple Rain cocktail and a Coca-Cola float as they tried out the Italian American chain's new Bring It Back series, which is inspired by its menu items from the 2000s which fans have been requesting to return.

At one point Max slid a ring onto Maisie's engagement finger, however, all was not as it seems as it was simply a tasty-looking onion ring instead of the usual sparkler. But Maisie, 21, proudly held out her manicured hands as Max, 34, placed the fried item over her finger, mimicking a proposal.

"I popped the big question," Max was heard saying in the voiceover. "Popped out the big guns," before continuing to detail what else they ate and drank during their visit to the food chain.

It comes after the pair got themselves in hot water with their fans and followers earlier this year when they teased a fake pregnancy announcement. The pair got their fans' tongues wagging when they teased "exciting news" as they shared a snap from their holiday. It showed them posing together as Maisie beamed while wearing a figure-hugging pink dress and held her tummy with a love heart obscuring her middle in the picture.

"We've got some really exciting news," Maisie wrote on her Instagram Stories. In the picture Max gazed down with his hand over his mouth as if staring in amazement. She then shared the same picture for a big reveal as she removed the heart. "I just had the best five course meal of my life," she said.

Over on his Instagram Stories Max expanded on what had happened as she shared a video of sizzling steak. "We just ate 10 dinners," he said. And with the same picture of himself and his girlfriend he shouted in his caption: "LOOK AT THAT LOVELY BELLY."

But some were left unimpressed by the prank. @steffxrs tweeted: "@maisie_smith_ @MaxGeorge Pregnancy jokes are not, and never will be funny... Please do better." @hanjmason said: "@MaxGeorge @maisie_smith_ Don’t think this is something either of you should be joking about tbh."
