Mauritanian President Says Qatar’s Actions Similar to Nazis

Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has stated that the decision to sever ties with Doha two years ago resulted from a personal conviction, noting that the Qatari role in the Arab and Islamic worlds is tantamount to Nazi actions during World War Two.

During a press conference in Nouakchott on Thursday night, on the eve of the Mauritanian presidential elections, he showcased his ten-year rule although he is not running for a third term.

His talk on Qatar came as a response to a question by a journalist on critical issues, including severing ties with Qatar, that will be dealt with by the new president.

Ould Abdel Aziz told the journalist that had he had the capabilities he would have cut ties with Qatar earlier. However Mauritania severed relations with Qatar with the first opportunity it got.

Qatar didn’t only destroy Arab and Islamic states, but also jeopardized the security of European and Western countries by funding and sponsoring terrorism, he said, adding that Qatar destroyed Tunisia, Libya, Yemen, and Syria.

The president stated that there is no democracy in Qatar except for the half hectare, where Al Jazeera Channel is headquartered and exploited by Doha to tell the world whatever it wants.

Ould Abdel Aziz expressed honor to have cut ties with Doha and denied having any regrets.

Mauritania’s decision to sever ties concurred with similar decisions by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt in addition to other Arab and Islamic states over Qatar’s role in sponsoring and funding terrorism.
