Mauricio Pochettino 'so close to last level' with Tottenham amid Real Madrid links

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says he is ready to take Spurs to "the last level", amidst speculation linking him with the vacant Real Madrid hot seat.

Real are looking for a new manager after sacking Julen Lopetegui, with former Espanyol man Pochettino thought to be among Florentino Perez's preferred candidates.

Pochettino signed a new long-term contract this summer, but has recently voiced his frustrations at the delays to Spurs' new stadium, fuelling speculation he could be tempted by an offer from Madrid.

However, speaking ahead of Tottenham's trip to Wolves, the Argentinian said he remained committed to the club.

"I think we’re so close to getting the last level, but we need to have that patience that makes us stronger," he said. "I think we’re strong enough to sort out all the problems and arrive, and in the end to achieve what the club and fans deserve, and in the end all we want to achieve one day is to win trophies.

"The reality is we are very close to finishing the new stadium, we’re very close to creating, in facilities, one of the best clubs in the world.

"Of course all have different costs to pay, and sometimes to win titles today is difficult for different reasons that you and our fans knowe very well."
