Mauricio Pochettino sets sights on Sergio Aguero as first headline transfer as PSG boss

Mauricio Pochettino has Sergio Aguero in his sights for a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old striker is into the final six months of his current deal at Manchester City and has yet to agree a new deal.

It means he is free to talk to foreign clubs. Aguero has been beset by injuries which have restricted him to just nine appearances - five in the Premier League.

His capture would provide a huge boost to PSG’s attacking options with Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi and Angel di Maria already at Pochettino’s disposal.

PSG remain among a select few clubs able to afford what would be a sizeable wage demand from Aguero, believed to be on around £240,000-a-week.

Pep Guardiola’s City side have reached the Carabao Cup Final without Aguero and have eased their way into Premier League title contention in his absence.

Guardiola has continued to maintain he will be patient with his legendary striker.

Speaking a fortnight ago, he said: “We have to be careful. We cannot do what we did in the past, when he comes back [too soon] and then gets injured. I still want to handle the minutes but I saw him well – and I love this guy.”

Aguero is already one of City’s all-time greats with 256 goals since joining from Atletico Madrid in July 2011.

He remains the highest scoring overseas player in Premier League history and also holds the record for the most hat-tricks scored (12).
