Maura Higgins seen skating for first time as she begins Dancing On Ice training

Maura Higgins has been seen ice skating for the first time as she begins her gruelling training schedule for Dancing On Ice.

And it looks like Love Island star Maura, 28, is already a natural as she performed a risky-looking lift with her partner with complete elegance.

Maura's coach lifts her in the air and spins her around as she bends her legs back behind her in the impressive move.

As she lands, Maura beams to the camera proudly.

The footage, posted on Maura's Instagram account, come two months before the ITV show begins again.

This series is set to make TV history as it will feature same-sex pairings.

Maura recently became official boyfriend and girlfriend with Curtis Pritchard, who she met in the villa.

The show is known to split couples up - as demonstrated by last year's runner up Wes Nelson with Megan Barton Hanson, also from Love Island.

But Curtis is throwing his weight behind supporting Maura and recently posted photos of her, praising her skating skills.

Speaking to This Morning, Maura said she had only tried skating once.

She admitted she was nervous about performing "the headbanger", where a skater is picked up by their ankle and swung around by their partner.

She said: [The headbanger] is what frightens me. I'm more excited than scared. I'm competitive so I think that will drive me."

The pairings have not been announced yet, but Maura talked about what she is looking for in a skating partner.

"I need someone strict I think.", she said.

"Otherwise I’ll just throw a strop, I’ll lay on the floor."

Other celebs taking part in next year’s series include model Caprice, Michael Barrymore, former footballer Kevin Kilbane, Steps singer Ian “H” Watkins and Corrie actress Lisa George.
