Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale cannot lose. Even when he loses. Which, it turns out, is fairly often.
The Texas-based bedroom accessory magnate has made a name for himself as one of America’s most prolific gamblers because he’s found a way to make his seven-figure bets a promotion — for himself and for the chain of furniture stores he owns. If his wager hits, he’ll refund your recent purchase of up to $3,000. If it doesn’t, he’s out his pocket money … but up however much in sales from anyone who jumped at his promotion.
Back in October, that wager was more than $3.6 million on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. While that potential payout of $35 million failed to go his way, Mattress Mack isn’t deterred. He plunked down $1.2 million on the Alabama Crimson Tide to win the College Football Playoff National Championship Game over the Georgia Bulldogs.

That’s a wager that would return $1.5 million in winnings at +125. It’s also a logical one.
The last time Alabama saw Georgia on a neutral field was at the SEC title game in December. The Crimson Tide were a six-point underdog and ran away with a 41-24 win and Nick Saban’s 10th SEC title. Now they’re a three-point dog in a higher stakes showdown, but in a game where they’ve beaten the Bulldogs before: Alabama won the first-ever overtime game at the CFP championship by rallying to beat Georgia, 26-23, four years ago.
Another win would pay out big for Mattress Mack. As well as anyone who recently picked up an eight-piece, faux marble bedroom set at one of his stores.
