Matthijs de Ligt transfer: Ajax boss reveals which club defender will join

Ajax are resigned to losing captain Matthijs de Ligt this summer - and expect him to join Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

The central defender, 19, has been in impressive form this season to lead the Dutch side to the Champions League quarter-finals.

But he will follow fellow academy graduate Frenkie de Jong out of Amsterdam at the end of the campaign.

De Ligt is most likely to join his countryman at Barcelona - but could be swayed by a move to Munich.

"There's zero chance Matthijs de Ligt is staying at Ajax,” Ajax boss Ten Hag told Suddeutschen Zeitung.

"There are so many clubs interested in him. He will leave us this summer, but I don't know whether he'll join Bayern or Barcelona."

Juventus , Liverpool , as well as both Manchester clubs, have been linked with a move for De Ligt but he is set to snub the Premier League.

And former United boss Louis van Gaal wants the teenager to move to the Nou Camp.

"De Ligt at Juventus? I think De Ligt can play in any competition,’ he told Ziggo Sport.

"In Italy they are the masters of defense, so he can best develop there [but] if I had the chance I would go to Barcelona.

"They have central defenders who are not too good, so he will play there. Or I would go to Manchester City . I don’t think the central defenders are that great either, so he’ll play there too."
