Matt Patricia rated among coaches with the hottest seats entering 2019

Could the Detroit Lions really pull the plug on Matt Patricia if the 2019 season doesn’t go well for the team? At least one analyst believes that is a very real possibility.

Trevor Sikkema from The Draft Network sure thinks Patricia’s long-term stability is in real peril. He rated Patricia as having one of the seats of any of the 32 NFL head coaches.

Sikkema sees Patricia’s seat already being on fire. Or as he puts it, “Hotter than a fireball shot at an SEC tailgate”.

He explains,

“We get one more double-digit losing season in 2019 and Patricia might not make it to halfway through the contract he signed a year and a half ago.”

Patricia’s first season did not flow well along the path to a 6-10 finish after back-to-back winning seasons under Jim Caldwell.

Our take

Another season of 6-10 or (God forbid) worse would be very hard to stomach for Lions fans, but everything we’ve seen and heard in and around Allen Park indicates the team is fully committed to letting the joint vision of Patricia and GM Bob Quinn play out beyond 2019.
