Free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick plans to work out for all 32 teams in Atlanta on Saturday, but Bears coach Matt Nagy wouldn’t say whether his organization will be represented.
“I honestly have no idea right now,” he said. “I’m focused in on where we’re at right now. I’ll leave that up to [general manager Ryan Pace] and those guys. They’ll have a handle on that.”
Pace speaks only to the team’s in-house media during the season and was not available for comment Wednesday. A Bears spokesman said the team does not disclose scouting assignments to avoid giving a competitive advantage.
According to USA Today Sports, the Lions, Cowboys, Falcons and Dolphins will send personnel to watch Kaepernick’s workout.
Kaepernick hasn’t been linked to the Bears despite them having quarterback issues throughout his time out of the NFL.
He led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 with a 98.3 passer rating. His last season was 2016, when he completed 59.2 percent of his passes, threw 16 touchdowns against four interceptions and had a 90.7 rating.
“It’ll be interesting,” Nagy said. “He’s been out of the game a little bit, but when he was doing well and playing, he definitely was a weapon.
“I’ll be curious to see how he does. For me, I wish him the best and all that. You always want good for people... But we’re so focused in on the Rams.”
Bears backup quarterback Chase Daniel, a member of the team’s social justice committee, said he is rooting for Kaepernick to get back into the NFL.
“I hope he throws the heck out of the football,” he said. “I hope he gets on a team. That’d be great.”
