Matt Baker issues update on mum Janice after horrific injury on family farm

Matt Baker has spoken about his mum Janice's recovery, as well as revealing the extent of her injuries after a horrific accident on the family farm.

Janice was involved in a freak incident during her daily routine on the farm in the Durham dales, when she was knocked to the floor and trampled while herding sheep.

The accident led to Janice having to take a lengthy break from her farming duties, with Matt, wife Nicola and the couple's children heading to his native County Durham to help dad Mike and secure the future of the family business

Janice's accident proved to be the catalyst for the family's highly successful TV series Our Farm in the Dales.

Matt returned home to help his parents in the aftermath of leaving The One Show and, after setting up his own production company and having conversations with TV execs, Our Farm in the Dales was born.

After proving a huge hit on More4, Our Farm in the Dales was handed a prime time slot on Channel 4 on Saturday nights, before returning to More4 for a second series a few weeks ago.

And the programme is back for a Christmas special, which former Blue Peter presenter Matt spoke about during an appearance on Lorraine on Monday.

Viewers saw Janice, who make revealed needed a knee replacement after her accident, make a return to work in series 2 and Lorraine asked Matt how his mum was, to which he replied: "Mum is great and she's relishing all the changes that we've made.

"It's quite something you know in a farming community, when you get that opportunity to wipe the slate clean a bit.

"And my children, who knows whether they want to take on the farm or not, they've been a big part of those changes.

"And I think for my mum and dad, they've really enjoyed the fact we've done all this together. And it came out of this scenario that none of us saw coming."

Talking about stepping into help his parents, Matt added: "I think what's kind of rung true with so many viewers is that even though or show is set to the backdrop of a farm, those family issues when you start looking after your parents in the same way they looked after you and the tables turn; that happens in every family."
