Match of the Day returns on BBC tonight and will show Premier League special

Everton and Liverpool fans will be able to weekly football fix after the BBC announced that Match of the Day will return to screens this weekend.

The Premier League confirmed on Thursday that all fixtures will remain suspended until April 30 due to the coronavirus outbreak, although health experts are warning the suspension of professional football in England could be extended with the worst of the virus yet to hit the country.

Last Saturday, the BBC replaced Match of the Day with Mrs.Brown's Boys, a decision which was met with widespread anger on social media as fans called on the broadcaster to show another football related show instead

And now it appears that those wishes have been granted, with the BBC confirming on Friday morning that Match of the Day:Top 10 will fill the 10.20pm slot this weekend.

Having launched on Wednesday, the new Match of the Day:Top 10 podcast on BBC Sounds will make its television debut on Saturday night with regular host Gary Lineker joined by Alan Shearer and Ian Wright.

The program will see the trio debate the greatest captains of the Premier League era and is the first in a new series of special features.

Football Focus will also broadcast this weekend with host Dan Walker taking a look back at some of the best interviews and features from shows so far this season.

While the BBC will also broadcast two classic FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon, those being Watford vs Arsenal from 1987 and West Bromwich Albion vs Nottingham Forest from 1978.
