Judd Trump moved into the quarter-finals of the Masters at Alexandra Palace in a close and tense affair against Kyren Wilson, clinching the match 6-5 in a deciding frame.
Wilson was the aggressor in the opening stages as Trump struggled to settle. Wilson made easy work of the opening three frames taking advantage of Trump’s nerves to move ahead 3-0. In the fourth frame though, a positional error allowed Trump into the match and he took the frame to head into the break 3-1 down.
From there the momentum swung heavily in Trump’s favour as Wilson’s standard dropped. He won five frames in a row before Wilson clicked back into focus. Two attritional frames fell Wilson’s way before he squandered a big chance in the deciding frame allowing Trump to slip through a small gap and nestle a red into the middle pocket.
He needed to clean up the table to erode Wilson’s lead and Trump proved why he is the defending champion by doing just that.
