Massive queue forms outside Zara in Liverpool an hour before opening time

Queues started forming outside Zara in Liverpool city centre an hour before it was due to open as lockdown comes to an end.

'Non-essential' retailers including clothing and homeware stores are allowed to reopen today as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Zara was due to open at 9.30am but shoppers were already lining up to get inside from around 8.30am.

The clothing brand is extremely popular with Liverpool shoppers so it's unsurprising that people were desperate to get their hands on the latest Zara items including Holly Willoughby's midi skirt she shared on her Instagram last month.

The queue was so long it stretched around the corner, past Starbucks and ran alongside the huge steps in Liverpool ONE, with customers following social distancing rules standing at least a metre apart.

The store has been closed since the beginning of the third lockdown just after Christmas.

Along with 'non-essential' retail stores like clothing and homeware stores, betting shops and electronic stores - pubs and restaurants are allowed to open today for outdoor hospitality.
