Massive clean-up after Champions League final as Liverpool partied on

A major clean-up operation was underway in Liverpool this morning following the Champions League final.

The City Council's street-cleaning teams started work at 4.30am as they cleared away the aftermath of the celebrations. Despite not getting the result they hoped for, Reds fans took over Liverpool and the streets became a sea of red.

Photos showed people spilling out of pubs and bars as they tried to get a good spot to watch the match. The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in Paris, missing out on a seventh European title after an incredible season.

But, despite the result, Liverpool fans partied on. Following the celebrations, plastic cups, cans and bags lined the streets and bin bags full of rubbish were piled high outside bars and clubs.

But at 4.30am the council's street cleaning teams were hard at work getting everything looking spick and span for the parade this afternoon.

Sharing pictures of the clean-up, Liverpool City Council said: "A big #thankyou to all the cleansing crews @lpool_LSSL for a champion effort this morning.

"This was Wood Street in #Liverpool city centre at 4.30am & again at 6am. For those attending today’s #LFC parade, please bag & bin your litter. #KeepLiverpoolTidy."
