Mass sweeps around Mansfield in effort to tackle knife crime

Nottinghamshire police have been carrying out knife sweeps across Mansfield in a bid to reduce knife crime.

Officers carried out searches during the day on Monday, November 15, and into the night.

Patrols took place outside the late night venues as part of their usual night activity in Mansfield town centre.

Searches were conducted around areas that can be hotspots for knife crime such as Layton Burroughs, Noel Street, Layton Avenue and Burns Street.

The force were on the look-out as part of operation Sceptre - a national campaign aimed at tackling knife crime.

A post from Mansfield District Police read: "This is part of routine operations to keep people safe as they enjoy our town centre.

"There is never an excuse for anyone to take a knife out in public and we will take appropriate action against anyone we find carrying one."

Police have said that they will continue to conduct knife sweeps throughout the week.
