Mason Mount's recent form proves Chelsea have learnt from their Eden Hazard mistake

Chelsea have scored seven goals in their last two matches - not bad for a team recently labelled as 'defensive'.

'Boring, boring Chelsea' are tearing teams apart at will and the fact we've been able to continue our fine clean sheet record whilst showcasing our attacking talents is a testament to the great work done by Thomas Tuchel and his coaching team.

It’s frightening to think that Mason Mount, who was once Chelsea’s most important player, has had no part to play in any of the last seven goals Chelsea have scored. In fact, he hasn't really had any major involvement in the last four Chelsea games.

Of course, he's still one of Chelsea’s most treasured players who we must protect at all costs, but how great is it to know that our team don't rely on one man to make us tick?

A big concern of mine in recent years has been the lack of ability to function when key players are missing. Take Eden Hazard for example. During his time at Chelsea, we struggled to perform when Hazard was absent or when he wasn't having his greatest game.

Recently, Mount has become the new Hazard. He'd been so crucial d during the Frank Lampard era that whenever he was absent from the team, the Blues had a tendency to slip into monotonous, almost robotic football.

Fortunately, there's been a complete turnaround under Tuchel.

It’s still a complete no-brainer when assessing Mount’s importance to this Chelsea side. He's a fans' favourite for many reasons, not just his vibrant personality.

His decision making, his press-resistant nature and his relentless energy are all key to this Chelsea team. Some fans were unsure whether Tuchel would play the 22-year-old when he first took charge at Chelsea, however, it's fair to say he's still one of the first names on the team sheet.

That being said, these last couple of weeks have shown that this team no longer needs Mount in the side to win games. The England international has only started one of the last six Chelsea games, yet he's barely been missed at all.

As a unit, Chelsea have played champagne football and have showcased their ability to win matches through individual brilliance. Instead of depending on the team unit, they've taken accountability for themselves. If one player is not performing, another player will step up to the mark.

The key to a fully functioning Chelsea is not Romelu Lukaku or Jorginho or Mount, it’s just, well... Tuchel.

Tuchel has unlocked something special at Chelsea and it's clear that he's nurtured an absolutely brilliant team in his short time at the club.

Whatever he’s tweaked in training has worked and the quality of every single player is there for all to see.

Having brilliant players in your side like Mount is obviously great but you can't rely too heavily on one player. Chelsea have fallen victim to such a trap in the past but it's clear they've learnt from their mistakes and they're a much better team for it.
