Mason Mount makes Manchester United debut in friendly vs Leeds as Kobbie Mainoo and Amad start

Mason Mount makes his Manchester United debut in Wednesday afternoon’s friendly against Leeds United in Oslo as the club's pre-season schedule begins.

The midfielder is United’s only signing of the window so far, having been unveiled at Old Trafford last week following his £60m switch from Chelsea. Mount will be the first player to don the No.7 shirt since Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit in November.

The 24-year-old starts in a midfield made up of academy products Hannibal Mejbri - who spent last season out on loan at Birmingham - and Kobbie Mainoo, who made his senior debut in January before penning a new long-term deal a month later.

Lisandro Martinez plays for the first time since damaging his metatarsal in April alongside centre half partner Raphael Varane, who captains the side. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alvaro Fernandez, who won Preston’s Young Player of the Season award while on loan last term, are the full-backs.

Up front, there is a first senior outing for fellow youth prospect Omari Forson. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who scored eight times in the Premier League 2 last season, starts in the front three.

Popular forward Amad is also given the nod in his first United appearance since his successful loan spell at Sunderland last season, in which he scored 14 goals. Jadon Sancho completes the frontline, having not been selected for England in last month’s internationals.

Those who did represent their country have been given extra time off while Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Dean Henderson have been left at Carrington to complete their recovery from injury.

And so with David de Gea gone, Tom Heaton starts the match in goal. Fellow shot-stoppers Nathan Bishop and Matej Kovar make the bench along with Brandon Williams, Charlie Savage and Shola Shoretire.

Starting XI: Heaton; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Fernandez; Mainoo, Mount, Hannibal; Amad, Sancho, Forson.

Subs: Bishop, Kovar, Bennett, Fish, Jurado, Williams, Collyer, Gore, Hansen-Aaroen, Oyedele, Savage, Shoretire, Emeran, Hugill.
