Mason Greenwood has responded to Rio Ferdinand's praise following his performance against Istanbul Basaksehir.
The forward came off the bench to set up a late goal for Daniel James in United's 4-1 win, squaring from the edge of the box to set up a simple finish for his teammate.
It has been a frustrating start to the season for Greenwood, with poor form and illness limiting him to just two goals from nine matches for United, yet his promising cameo caught the eye of Ferdinand.
Tweeting a video from his BT Sport punditry, Ferdinand said: "This guy makes me wanna go watch training. More to come from Mason Greenwood!"
It prompted a response from the young striker, who replied with a love heart emoji.
Speaking on BT Sport post-match, Ferdinand said the 19-year-old's growing physicality will suit his finishing ability as he develops, comparing him to United great Ruud van Nistelrooy.
He said: "Look at him, he's growing as well. He's going to be a beast to go with the technique he's got, his understanding and spacial awareness.
"He plays off both feet and he's a devastating finisher. I want to go and watch training, that's what he gets out of me. I want to go and see his technique, him lashing balls into the back of the net.
"We talk about people like Ruud van Nistelrooy - it excites you when you see people that finish aggressively and with precision - he's got that in abundance."
Ferdinand's praise was echoed by fellow pundit Paul Scholes, who backed Greenwood to become United's best finisher.
Scholes said: "He physically now looks stronger than the last time we saw him. He's a big, strong powerful lad and he's only going to get bigger and stronger as well. I think, out of the three or four forwards they have, he'll be the best finisher."
