Maserati International Rally staged in majestic Scotland

THE best supercars on the planet took to the best roads in the world as the Maserati International Rally toured Scotland.

Setting off from Gleneagles Hotel, 120 of the hand-crafted Italian thoroughbreds headed out to the historic Rest and Be Thankful hillclimb for a rare opportunity to drive up the famous stretch of road.

They then travelled along Loch Fyne to Inveraray Castle before returning along many of the finest roads through the Trossachs. The second day saw the convoy that included a 1957 3500 GT, Vignale Spider and Bora drive north to Blair Castle and a distillery tour at Dalwhinnie.

With machines spanning more than 60 years of the company, onlookers were treated to the sight of Sebrings, Khamsins, Meraks, Ghiblis and many other Maseratis growling through the Scottish countryside.

That evening saw the participants from 14 countries, who had come from as far as Australia, the USA and Italy, attend a gala dinner at Stirling Castle. This was a chance for these Italian supercar fans to enjoy a traditional ceilidh and Scottish hospitality.

At the prize-giving, the coveted Peter Martin Trophy was awarded to Armin and Beatriz Streuli, from Switzerland, who took part in their Maserati Coupe. As the classic gathering departed, they all agreed Scotland had delivered the best ever Maserati International Rally in its 40-year history.
