Mary Poppins star Glynis Johns reflects on turning 100: ‘It doesn’t make any difference’

Actress Glynis Johns has opened up about recently turning 100.

The South African-born star known for portraying Winifred Banks in the classic 1964 Disney movie, Mary Poppins, alongside Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews.

She celebated her milestone birthday on October 5 and was rather dismissive when asked about reaching the impressive age, telling ABC7: “It doesn’t make any difference to me. Well, I looked very good for every age.”

While now retired, Ms John’s career spanned eight decades and saw her appear in more than 60 films and 30 plays.

Over that time she received various accolades, including a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award and was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe in 1961 and 1963 respectively.

The interview concluded with the interviewer telling the star her work is likely to be remembered by fans well into the future.

The performer described the idea of having her work impact future audiences as a “lovely thought”, before adding: “That’s what I’d hoped.”

Ahead of her birthday, John’s closest living relative, grandson Thomas Forwood, was campaigning to get her a damehood.
