While PlayStation will end discs for new releases in 2028, most of its major first-party releases still seem to be launching on discs in the meantime. That includes Marvel's Wolverine – but the limited edition console Sony's releasing alongside the upcoming PS5 is set to be digital only.
Sony revealed the Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 console and accessories today on the PlayStation Blog. At a price of $649.99 / £569.99 / €649.99, you're getting a digital PS5 model cast in the black and bright yellow of Wolverine's trademark spandex, with a screaming Logan drawn on the side of the console.
I can't decide how I feel about the overall look of the console, but I do like the detail on the claw marks running down the side of the machine. Those are made up of transparent plastic, allowing you to see the PS5's innards at work, just as if the Canadian anti-hero had really cut a little viewing hole in the side of the machine.
The price is slightly more than the standalone console, but it does come with a download code for the game, so you're getting a slight deal here. Unless, of course, you want Marvel's Wolverine on disc, but Sony is willing to throw you a $75 bone if you're in that camp.
If you already have a PS5 and want some X-Men flavor, you can also just buy console covers for the same effect at a price of $74.99 / £64.99 / €74.99. These include parts for digital only models alongside those for real consoles with disc drives. There's a separate cover set for PS5 Pro consoles, as well, which also comes in an "Adamantium" silver color if you don't care for the yellow.
This is all pretty standard stuff for a limited edition console released alongside a major new game, but given all the scrutiny around Sony's decision to drop support for discs, players are having about the response you'd expect to this digital-only console. "Wolverine would have fought for physical media rights," as YouTube commenter SolidSmiech puts it.
