Marvel Rivals' roster looks like it will continue to get weird with its new season arriving this week if a teaser from today is anything to go by.
NetEase Games began the hype train for season eight, due to launch on Friday, by basically confirming that the newest hero will be none other than Devil Dinosaur. An actual tyrannosaurus rex-like dinosaur, to join alongside a land shark and a raccoon, creating a veritable menagerie of animalistic playables.
Devil Dinosaur is from a different reality called Earth-78411, which is set during a primitive past time period. He's often seen teamed up with Moon-Girl (or Moon-Boy) as their partner and more-intelligent-than-average dino.
This is easily Marvel Rivals' weirdest addition yet, even weirder than Jeff the Land Shark. Because Devil Dinosaur is traditionally depicted as massive, so an educated guess would be that it will be a Vanguard hero. But how the heck will it work if it's true to size, towering over every other character on the roster?
Marvel's info on the prehistoric beast is that it has superhuman strength and Neuralkinesis, which is the ability to transfer a person's mind from one body to another. That may make for some interesting skills in the game, beyond sheer size, big teeth, and stumpy arms. Either way, color me very intrigued to see how this will work.
I also hope that Moon-Girl will be involved somehow, because the pair are inseparable, especially in a recent run of comics and even a cartoon show highlighting the duo. Where one goes, the other follows, so hopefully Rivals continues that trend.
The full reveal of Marvel Rivals' season eight, and Devil Dinosaur, will likely arrive tomorrow ahead of the season's launch on May 15. In-game lore from season seven teases that another new hero, likely the X-Men's Cyclops, will be coming mid-season in June.
