Martin Odegaard drops hint on Gabriel Jesus injury return during Arsenal's victory over Everton

Martin Odegaard ended his minor goal drought of seven games in Arsenal's 4-0 Premier League victory against Everton on Wednesday night, where his goal celebration caught the eye. A third consecutive victory saw the Gunners extend their lead over Manchester City at the top to five points with 13 games to play.

Prior to Odegaard's strike, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both grabbed goals just before half-time to put Mikel Arteta's side in control at Emirates Stadium. Leandro Trossard continued his contributions to goals as he set up Odegaard for a simple close-range finish in the second half before Martinelli sealed the victory with 10 minutes to play.

"I am really happy as it was the game we had in hand against an opponent that we knew would make life really difficult for us," Arteta said in his post match press conference. "We experienced that at Goodison. We started the game with some frustration and not really understanding what we had to do and allowed them to run in certain transitions.

"But after 25 minutes we started to get much better and the timing of the two goals was key. We needed a magic moment there and Alex produced that. And then the team grew especially with Thomas as Jorginho was not feeling good today. When he came on he really gave some presence and some stability to the team and I think the second half was superb."

A half-time withdrawal for Jorginho did not seem too surprising given Arsenal were two-up at the time and Arteta likely wanted to give more minutes to a returning Thomas Partey. However, an issue for Jorginho could certainly be a problem for the Gunners as he has performed so admirably in the absence of Partey.

With the Ghana international building up more minutes he can certainly be considered available again, which leaves Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson as the two first-team stars still out with injuries. Emile Smith Rowe was given a brief cameo on Wednesday after playing earlier in the week in Premier League 2 alongside Jakub Kiwior.

Arsenal are hopeful of having Jesus back in the squad before the international break, football.london understands. Jesus also posted an update on his recovery to his social media on Tuesday. "Step by step", his tweet read, alongside multiple emojis before the hashtags of "alômãe" and "gratidão", which roughly translate to "hello mother" and "gratitude", the former of which refers to his iconic phone call celebration to his mother.

Arsenal will undoubtedly be hugely boosted by his return and it seems his teammates are excited to welcome him back as well. After scoring Arsenal's third, Odegaard took a page out of the Jesus playbook by using his iconic phone call celebration before doing the same dance Jesus did after his goal against Brentford earlier on in the season, as pointed on Reddit where the two celebrations were placed side-by-side.

The Brazil international would have likely seen the moment as he was in attendance for Arsenal's clash against Everton. An impressive new-look front four which includes Leandro Trossard and Martinelli, who looked set to compete for one spot, likely means Arteta can ease Jesus back into action with the hope of having him available before the March international break.
