This Morning viewers breathed a sigh of relief today as Martin Lewis proved he is very much alive after a scam advert suggested otherwise.
The Money Saving Expert appeared on the ITV daytime programme today to urge viewers to report any ad they see that claims he has died.
Martin told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that the ad is running in “lots of online newspapers” and slammed it as “horrendous”.
Via video link from his home, Martin said: “I have just found out that there’s another one of those adverts running on lots of online newspapers today that say I’m dead.
“They’re scam adverts using the fact that I’ve died and it’s just horrendous at this time.
“I clearly haven’t, obviously.
“But just to say that if you see it, please report it because a lot of people are getting disturbed by it.
“We all need to act together to try and help to stop these horrendous scammers, this moral turpitude.
“Right now, to be saying someone has died, when they haven’t as a form of advertising, it just beggars belief.”
Holly and Phil were both shocked by his news.
Holly said: “Oh Martin I am sorry.”
While Schofe added: “I am glad you’re ok.”
Viewers were quick to criticise the advert, and send Martin well wishes.
One tweeted: “OMG there are some sick bastards out there. Good to see your OK Martin.”
A second blasted: “Some strange people about, why would someone do this? Sick!”
Another said they had seen the ad and were willing to report it.
“Disgusting. So sorry you have to put up with this crap. I saw one on MSN news site. Happy to screenshot it if you deem it helpful,” they said.
