Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert has explained how to get free food from places like McDonald's and Tesco.
Some supermarkets and businesses give out complimentary snacks and food with special offers, they just don't advertise them particularly loudly.
But food bills have soared in recent months - by 11.6% to be precise - and everybody is looking for ways to make those all-important savings.

Sign up to apps
Burgers always taste better when they're free.
Customers who sign up to Burger King's loyalty scheme can nab a free cheeseburger or fries upon signing up, which gives you 200 points. Tasty.

Rival fast food giants McDonalds have a similar scheme which can land you tons of freebies, such as complimentary McFlurries. We're lovin' it.
And over a Greggs, anyone signing up to the bakery chain's app is entitled to a free hot drink first time round.
For those who are with the O2 network, you can also grab a free caffeine fix from Greggs once a week if you sign up to the O2 Priority app. Thank us later.

Let everyone know it's your birthday
We all know that one person that exploits their birthday to the bitter end. But taking a leaf out of their book could help you pick up a few freebies.
Some companies like Krispy Kreme offer free treats for those celebrating their big day, all you need to do is sign up to their mailing lists.

Here's a list of companies who provide birthday offers:
- Krispy Kreme - what could be better than a birthday donut? The 'Friends of Krispy Kreme' app lands you a free treat of your choice on birthdays, plus one for your child or significant other, too.
- Hotel Chocolat - from donuts to chocolate, the fancy chocolatiers offer you a 'surprise gift' on birthdays for VIP card holders.
- Greggs - slightly less fancy, but just as cheerful. Download the Greggs app to nab a free sweet treat on your special day.
Be a mystery diner
Some restaurant chains offer meals on the house to those who are willing to provide honest feedback.
Writing reviews helps keep staff customer-focused and improves their service.

You don't need to be the next food critic extraordinaire, just have a decent grasp of written English, a camera to snap a picture of your meal and to spare a bit of time to write a review.
Chains which use the mystery diner service include Carluccio's, Wagamama, Leon and Giraffe.
