Martin Compston reveals his next project as fans worry that Line Of Duty is ending

Martin Compston reveals what his next project will be while his fans worry about the possibility of Line of Duty ending.

The star, who plays Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the police drama, took to Instagram to share the details of his latest work.

"Led by the brilliant @suranne_jones and from the makers of Line of Duty. Coming soon to BBC1 #VIGIL," he wrote.

Accompanying the caption was a snap of Martin wearing a Royal Navy uniform along which was emblazoned with the name tag 'Burke'.

He is wearing a headset while looking back with a look of shock on his face.

The six-part series follows the sudden disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on-board the submarine HMS Vigil

It results in the police conflicting with the Navy and British security service.

A few days before, Martin revealed that the series will not return for seventh season "just for the sake of it".

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, he added that the decision lies with creator Jed Mercurio.

Martin explained: “He always takes time off. But I think it is important to say, I think this natural story arc that we’ve been on for the last six years [is coming to an end].

The star says the series won't return without a good reason (BBC)

“We won’t come back just for the sake of it. That’s for sure. We’ll come back if there’s a story to tell.

"But, so as well, if it ends well maybe sometimes it is best to leave it. But, so, genuinely we don’t know.”

Fans had panicked on Twitter, with many asking the actor: "It's not THE END is it?"

"Is this it? Or is there going to be a series 7?" another questioned the star.

Another upset fan wrote: "Will this be the last season? Gutted if yes as its a fantastic programme."
