Martin Boyle should be Celtic and Rangers target claims former Manchester United coach

Australia assistant boss Rene Meulensteen has explained his shock that neither Celtic or Rangers have moved to sign 'special' winger Martin Boyle.

The speedster helped his side to 2-2 draws against both halves of the Glasgow divide so far this season and claimed two assists against the Ibrox club's miserly defence.

Scotland born Boyle moved to commit to Australia two years ago and has amassed four caps and two goals for his adopted nation.

And Meulensteen - a former Manchester United coach and Fulham boss - has admitted he's surprised Boyle is still with the capital club instead of across the M8.

He said: "I’m actually surprised that a club like Celtic or Rangers haven’t come in for him because he’s got so much to offer and is doing really well for Hibs right now.

"Martin’s great - he’s full of beans, hard-working, quick, agile and direct.

"He’s got something special about him, he’s not afraid to run at people and has a heart like a lion.

"Martin has had a few injury setbacks, but personality-wise he never stops smiling. He’s a good guy and a very good player."
