What’s Going To Happen
Marshall got the win it had to have, and now it can’t blow the layup.
It took down WKU last week to take the lead in the division race, but it still has Louisiana Tech next, a date at Charlotte, and FIU to close things out. This has to be a bit of a week off against a Rice team that’s not able to get anything going.
The winless Owls aren’t doing anything offensively – scoring 20 points or fewer in every game but the 31-27 loss to UTSA – with one of the nation’s least-effective offenses, not enough of a passing game, too many turnovers, and too many missed opportunities. However, they’re able to slow games down just enough to keep them close.
Marshall’s offensive line is playing too well. There’s a good enough running game to control the game, the pass rush is solid, and it doesn’t take too many points to put away this Rice team. The Herd will come up with two early scoring drives and coast from there.
