Married At First Sight UK to get even more intimate by introducing sex counselling

Married At First Sight will be investigating the intimacy between newly wedded contestants on the UK version of the show by introducing a sex counsellor to the series.

Sexpert Charlene Douglas has been drafted in for the new series of the show – which throws couples straight into the deep end by having them swap vows the first time they meet.

Charlene will be peeling back the marital covers to discover how things are developing in the bedroom between the couples – and offering her expert advice and support.

The London based therapist – who has featured on The Sex Clinic on E4 – will be joining the relationship experts Mel Schilling and Paul C Brunson on the Channel 4 show.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Charlene will be helping the new couples “get to know their partners on a more intimate level” – while she says she is also “unafraid to ask the touch questions.”

She said: “I’m really looking forward to getting to know them all and digging deeper into their relationships, finding new ways for them to connect on a more intimate level.”

While Charlene states on her own website: "I strongly believe that intimacy is a key part of a healthy life. Every hug, kiss, or touch triggers an emotional connection and strengthens relationships.

"Sex can be so much more than just a physical act.

"There are so many exciting ingredients needed to have a fulfilling sexual relationship - trust, clear communication, honesty, excitement…the list goes on...Feeling valued is also so important."

Last month it was revealed that Married At First Sight producers are looking for new contestants who are interested in getting married to a complete stranger for a new season.

Couples are placed into pairings by the show’s expert matchmakers, who vow they’re the perfect match – but the big catch is that the singletons first meet their spouse at the altar.

Cameras then follow the newlyweds to capture all manner of sparks as their relationships are explored on screen.

Plans are afoot for the next series to be the ‘sexiest ever’ as Channel 4 hopes to compete with ITV2’s sizzling summer romance reality show, Love Island.

A show source said last month that they were hoping to attract a younger audience to the show and replicate the magic – and drama – of the Australian version of the show, which took TV by storm during lockdown.

The source said: "Married At First Sight UK started out as much more of a straight TV experiment looking at relationships.

"They're looking for particularly attractive and interesting characters to ensure the British reincarnation is as explosive as the one Down Under."

Channel 4 said: “In this unique relationship series about married life, a panel of matchmaking experts will be there to help you find the one.”
