Owain Powell, who works in digital marketing at London-based Decibel Insight, explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.
We are a startup based in Shoreditch, London. We launched our full product this year and in such a competitive marketplace it’s been tough to get our business off the ground and up and running to compete with established players.
A few great successes through digital PR have helped us to gain lots of traction. We have used Moz tools, analytics and social platforms, as well as manual advanced Google searches, to track competitor activity and the links they have gained in previous years. Through this, we managed to succesfully reach out to various sources, mainly through Twitter and LinkedIn.
One source included our business in the Huffington Post, gaining us 250 signups and plenty of exposure just through being mentioned.
By reaching out through Twitter, we also found @NikkiElizDemere who has over 28k followers, most of whom are relevant to our business. She listed us online, and then shared this through Twitter. We gained 283 sign-ups as a result.
This combined effort has got our business noticed in all the right places. So much so that through continued social and content activity we have recruited huge brands such as Bang & Olufsen, EE and Virgin Money in the space of just a few months.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
