Valeria Aliperta, interpreter, linguist and copywriter at Rainy London Translations, explains why the business should win the marketing and PR category of the Guardian Small Business Showcase competition.
I am a big fan of new media and opportunities. My product is language services, but to promote that as a non-commoditised service is becoming increasingly difficult.
That’s why, among other ideas - such as a strong engagement rate on social platforms - informative videos and branding talks in and inside the industry, every year I run a contest on social media to promote my business, with a twist. It’s called #rainycontest. The idea involves a question for people to answer creatively for a chance to win a branded coffee cup by Rainy London (my business is very personal and as I am a passionate espresso drinker, I created cups for my best clients and followers to win and buy.)
This year the question was: ‘If money was no object, what would you do?’ With an average of 200 entries from Twitter and other means it was hard to pick a winner! But everyone in the business – and most importantly, outside it – waits for it year after year. Love and shared experiences are the strongest storytelling you can get these days.
All entries which meet the competition criteria are published and our judging panel select a shortlist of the three for each category. Winners are announced at an awards ceremony in summer 2016.
