Mark your calendars — Xbox Ally handheld release date just leaked

ROG Xbox Ally.

We may have a release date for the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally handheld consoles thanks to a regular, fairly reliable leaker who claims the portable PCs are coming in October.

The leak comes from the French site Dealabs, where the author, Bilikun, said the consoles would release on October 16, thanks to information from a Spanish Asus distributor. They go on to say that Microsoft will announce the date at Gamescom 2025 during a live broadcast on August 20.

Both the Xbox ROG Ally and Xbox ROG Ally X were revealed by Asus and Xbox in June. The ROG Ally will feature an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The higher-end Ally X features an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor and 24GB of high-speed RAM.

Both consoles will run on a custom version of Windows 11 featuring a full-screen Xbox interface, plus an aggregated gaming library with access to other PC stores like Steam.

The same leaker recently claimed that the Xbox ROG Ally would cost €599, while the Xbox Ally X will come in at €899. Another leaker said the Ally would be priced at $499 in the US while the Ally X would start at $799, which tracks with the European pricing.

Reportedly, during Gamescom, preorders will open up after the official announcement, which begins at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. EDT / 2 p.m. BST on Wednesday, August 20.

In other news, a mainline Xbox console is allegedly being worked on and could launch in the next two years with an AMD chip that doubles the performance of the PS5 Pro. Though the leaks and the new handheld consoles have us believing the next-gen Xbox could be trying to compete with PCs, not the PS6.
