There are some brands that are just synonymous with an entire category of things. Do you blow your nose with a tissue, or a Kleenex? Do you put an adhesive bandage on that cut on your finger, or do you use a Band-Aid?
Not every scooter is a Vespa, but there are a whole lot of people out there who use the name "Vespa" on every scooter they see, whether it's accurate or not. And there's a reason for that: It's the very definition of the (sadly much overused at this point) word 'iconic.' Vespa, like it or not, is a true style icon for the decades.
And as of 2026, it's very nearly a style icon for the century. Next year is about to mark a pretty special birthday for the world's most recognizable scooter brand. How old will it be, you wonder? Try 80 years old. It's an impressive milestone to reach for anyone, be they a regular person or a scooter manufacturer.
While we're certain there will be ample amounts of very tasty cake involved (how could there not be?), one other thing we know for sure is that Piaggio Group is planning a big party to celebrate. How big? Try four entire days long.
The event is currently scheduled to take place in Rome, Italy from June 25 through 28, 2026, so be sure to mark it down on your calendar if you're any kind of Vespa fan. Full details of the event have yet to be announced, but will be forthcoming in the months between now and then.
Honestly, where else would you have your 80th birthday party, if you're Vespa? After all, it's the place where one of the most iconic film scenes in the history of Hollywood and Vespa ever happened.
Whether you're riding by yourself or two-up into Rome to celebrate next year, only one question remains: Will any of the route taken in the movie be on a planned ride route at the birthday celebration? Only time will tell whether ride organizers take that into consideration.
Will you be among the tens of thousands of Vespa lovers the brand is expecting to see swelling the streets of Rome next year? Share your memories of your favorite scooter maker in the comments if you like.
