Mark Sharp and the Bicycle Thieves release new single for good cause

Up-and-coming West Lothian band Mark Sharp and the Bicycle Thieves have released a charity single for NHS Scotland.

The band covered Tears for Fears’ single ‘Mad World’ to show their appreciation for the dedication of NHS and care workers during the pandemic.

The track is available to download exclusively on BandCamp, with all proceeds going direct to NHS Scotland.

The band have been busy during lockdown keeping their fans entertained with covers of other songs and they decided they should be a bit more serious and do something for a good cause.

Mark explained: “We had been doing a few covers with the band to try and lift people’s spirits and then that song came up, so we just decided to do a video for it and try to raise some money for the NHS.

“It was our keyboard player Darren Moran who came up with the idea, we were doing piano songs and then he just had a light bulb moment and thought that is really relevant, with the song title and the lyrics. It is doing quite well, I think it is the most viewed song we have had so far.

“Our manager, Ross Coutts, was a massive help with it all and Scott Kempik did an amazing job with the video too.”

The band have been busy recording demos during lockdown and are booked in to the recording studio for late in July when they hope some of the lockdown restrictions will have been lifted.

They hope to have some new material ready for their fans later in the year and are hoping to be playing to a live audience in September.

Mark continued: “We are still due to play The Mashhouse later in the year.

“It was rescheduled, it was supposed to be in March but has now been moved to September 3, which is a Thursday night. That’s not normally a great night for a gig so we are just kind of hoping that everyone will be wanting out as much as possible once this is all done with.”
