Mark Millar stops drinking Irn-Bru after AG Barr changed recipe

COATBRIDGE comic-book tycoon Mark Millar has revealed he stopped drinking Irn-Bru after its makers changed their secret recipe.

Millar said he was left heartbroken after having to ditch his three cans a day habit because he no longer liked the flavour.

The creator of movies Kick-Ass and Kingsman, 51, turned his back on Scotland’s other national drink three years ago.

He said: “New formula murdered Irn-Bru. I drank two to three cans a day my whole life and now never touch it.

"It happened so gradually but I haven’t bought any in ages. It tastes like a diet drink now.”

The hugely popular writer added: “It breaks my heart. The original formula was amazing.

“The only winners here are dentists and cardiologists.”

AG Barr changed the formula for Irn-Bru in January 2018 in response to a sugar tax introduced by the UK Government.

The move saw the amount of sugar in the drink, first brewed in 1901, reduced by half.

Millar, who also wrote Superman and Captain America comics, sold his empire to Netflix for £25 million in 2017. He now creates exclusive shows for the streaming giant.

Last year, he and wife Lucy surprised children with back-to-school gifts and Christmas presents at three primary schools in his home town.
