Mark Hoppus says chemotherapy for his stage 4 cancer 'is working' in positive update

Mark Hoppus has provided an updated on his cancer treatment, saying it's the "best possible news".

The Blink-182 star told fans that his cancer treatment appears to be working after previously revealing that he had stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

The rock star, 49, first announced he had the disease last month and shared an update on Monday where he announced his chemotherapy so far looked to be a success.

He said: "Scans indicate that the chemo is working! I still have months of treatment ahead, but it's the best possible news.

"I'm so grateful and confused and also sick from last week's chemo. But the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of people around me are destroying this cancer.

"Just gonna keep fighting..."

Hoppus, who is the bassist and singer for punk rock band Blink-182, released a statement on social media in June telling of his cancer diagnosis.

He was first diagnosed in April and shared snaps of his hair loss as a result of the chemotherapy, which still has several months to go.

"My blood's trying to kill me," he said in a recording which was released on the YouTube account Blink-182 Chile.

"My classification is diffuse large B-cell lymphoma Stage 4-A, which means, as I understand it, it's entered four different parts of my body," the star explained

"I don't know how exactly they determine the four-part of it, but it's entered enough parts of my body that I'm Stage 4, which I think is the highest that it goes. So, I'm Stage 4-A."

During the livestream, the musician confessed that he has been leaning on his mother - a three-time cancer survivor - for support.

He said: "Oddly enough, we have the exact form of cancer. And she beat it, so I've been able to talk to her and bond with her quite a bit."

Shortly after he announced he had the disease, bandmate Travis Barker sent his support.

The drummer admitted he "can't wait" until they are able to perform together again and says he is with him every step of the way.

Hoppus, who has a teenage son with wife Skye Everly, formed Blink-182 in Southern California in 1992.
