Mark Gonzalez makes honest scoring admission after Liverpool Legends goal against Celtic

Mark Gonzalez has admitted he can’t explain his rich scoring run of form for Liverpool Legends after the Chilean overtook his own overall Reds tally in the latest veterans clash against Celtic.

The forward scored three times for Liverpool in the 2006/07 season after being signed by Rafa Benitez. But he now has four goals from just three Legends appearances after scoring home and away against Manchester United Legends last year.

The 38-year-old doubled the Reds’ lead with a well-taken finish in front of the Kop against Celtic as they ran out 2-0 winners on Saturday. And speaking after the match, Gonzalez vowed to add to his tally in the next Legends match while sharing his delight and being able to help raise money for the LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.

“It’s the same question I ask myself,” he told reporters when asked his Legends scoring run. “I’m very happy. Happy to be back, happy to score.

“It’s always important, it doesn’t matter if it’s a charity game. I always take it as a competitive game. I think my team-mates do as well and we’ve shown that. Looking forward to more games in the future and to hopefully keep scoring.

“We are all very delighted and happy for all the supporters. It’s amazing to hear a full stadium for a charity game. It’s something that you don’t really see every day or anywhere else in the world.

“We are so happy and thankful for all the people that came today and supported Liverpool. For us as well, to be on the pitch and see all those supporters, knowing they have donated for people in real need. It’s delightful and we’re happy for that.”
