Mark Ashton explains why Bristol City have given Lee Johnson a new four-year contract

Mark Ashton says he is thrilled Lee Johnson has agreed a new four-year deal at Bristol City.

The Robins announced today that Johnson has agreed terms at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2023 as they continue to work towards their shared goal of Premier League football.

City CEO Ashton told the club website that Johnson's positive impact on the club is clear to see.

He said: “I’m thrilled Lee has committed his future to the club, the positive impact he’s already had is clear to see.

“I’ve worked with him for more than three years now and on a daily basis, I witness first hand his attitude, passion and professionalism towards the football club which is fantastic to see.

“He follows the same vision as the club, which is vital, and we will continue to work together to deliver our ultimate goal of promotion to the Premier League.”

Johnson thanked the Robins hierarchy for the support he has received, and said he is looking forward to continuing the work he has done so far.

He said:  “I’m delighted to have signed a new deal at Bristol City. I’m really looking forward to continuing the journey in our mission for success.

“I’d like to thank the Lansdown family, the board of directors, Mark Ashton, players and staff, as well as the fans for supporting me so much up to this point, and we now drive on - come on you reds!”
