Mark Allen's first words as Swansea City confirm his departure from sporting director role

Swansea City have confirmed the departure of sporting director Mark Allen after 15 months at the club.

The Welshman joined arrived at the Swansea.com Stadium in January 2021, originally spearheading the club's academy before being promoted to the role of sporting director and working alongside boss Russell Martin.

But he has now left the club to pursue other opportunities.

Allen said: “Having spent the last 15 months or so aligning the football methodology and operations across the club from academy to first team, and establishing a strong foundation on which to build, I feel it is the appropriate time in the project to pass the baton on.

“I have extremely enjoyed my time at the club and have had the privilege to work alongside some excellent football staff. I wish Russell Martin and the players the best of luck moving forward and nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing Swansea City back in the Premier League for the loyal and magnificent fan base, and I wish the club every success in this pursuit.”

WalesOnline understands that chief executive Julian Winter, who is responsible for bringing Allen to the club, has been unimpressed with his appointment's performance. It is thought the pair have regularly found themselves disagreeing behind the scenes.

Winter said: “We have good foundations in place as we strive to press ahead with our ongoing football strategy.

“The club looks ahead to an important period with the summer transfer window fast approaching and thanks Mark for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.

“A recruitment process is now underway and the club will provide an update in due course.”
