Chelsea allowed a number of players to leave on transfer deadline day.
For example, Tiemoue Bakayoko sealed a return to Italy by joining Napoli on loan, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek will spend the remainder of the season with fellow Premier League side Fulham.
But one player who stayed put was wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi and that's despite links to Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga giants had previously been linked with a move for Hudson-Odoi, but a transfer failed to materialise and the England international signed a new contract last season.
However, Bayern reignited their interest ahead of the transfer deadline, and manager Hansi Flick confirmed that the club were indeed planning a move for Hudson-Odoi.
"He is one of the greatest talents on the position," Flick said in a press conference.
"Therefore it is legitimate that we at Bayern Munich deal with him."
Much to the relief of many Chelsea fans, Bayern ultimately failed with a loan deal that would have had an option to buy for £70m at the end of the season.
And that's thanks to director Marina Granovskaia.
As reported by Sport Bild, Granovskaia played hardball with Bayern as they went on the offensive in their pursuit of Hudson-Odoi.
She reportedly wanted to insert various clauses into his contract if he moved to Bayern on loan, including a penalty clause if he didn't play enough games for the club and also demanded an obligation to buy the winger for over £70million if he reached a certain number of appearances.
Therefore, Bayern opted to break things off with Chelsea as it was turning into a costly deal.
Granovskaia's stance will certainly have delighted Blues boss Frank Lampard who said after the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace that Hudson-Odoi has a big role to play under him.
"Callum is absolutely part of my plans here. We have [Christian] Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech injured before Christian came back in today. We need options and what Callum showed today and the second half against West Brom is exactly what he needs to show," Lampard said.
"I am pleased with him."
