Marcus Smart, Puma have mutual interest on a shoe endorsement deal

As his rookie shoe deal with Adidas is set to expire soon, Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart may be on the verge of signing a shoe endorsement deal with Puma, according to ESPN’s Nick DePaula.

Puma, a Boston-based brand, could be looking for another Celtics player to represent their brand after point guard Terry Rozier was traded to the Charlotte Hornets after Kemba Walker agreed to sign with Boston.

Rozier signed with Puma last summer and quickly became a brand ambassador, constantly promoting Puma’s consistently colorful kicks.

However, while a deal between Smart and Puma may be on the horizon, don’t expect the Celtics fan favorite to reveal his plans just yet.

When asked by NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg about a potential partnership, Smart exercised his fifth amendment right to remain silent.

“I plead the fifth,” says Smart.

Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton, Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins and Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. are among the NBA athletes to be sponsored by Puma.
