Marcus Rashford responds to Rio Ferdinand's claim Hugo Lloris has something against him

Marcus Rashford has replied to Rio Ferdinand on Twitter after the Manchester United legend jokingly suggested Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had something against the Red Devils forward.

United welcomed Spurs to Old Trafford on Wednesday night in a game that saw Erik ten Hag's side dominate their visitors from the first whistle. Rashford was part of an attacking line-up that peppered Lloris' goal all evening, though the Frenchman was equal to almost everything that was thrown at him.

It took until the 47th minute before the hosts' pressure eventually told when Fred's shot deflected off of Eric Dier and left Lloris rooted to the spot. Bruno Fernandes got another effort past him later on to put the result beyond any doubt, but the Spurs shot-stopper still gave a fantastic account of himself.

Rashford had a number of his attempts thwarted by Lloris, which in turn prompted Ferdinand to take to social media during the game and write: "Lloris got something against Marcus," followed by a shocked face emoji.

On Thursday morning, once the dust had settled on United's victory, Rashford replied with a light-hearted: "Serious bro," accompanied with a laughing emoji.

It's clear the England international feels the Spurs shot-stopper had a standout showing against him, but Rashford will just be delighted his side came away with all three points.

After a disastrous start to the season that saw them lose their opening two games to Brighton and Brentford respectively, boss Erik ten Hag has overseen a drastic turnaround in United's fortune and now has them sitting just outside the Champions League qualification places.

United's win over Spurs helped close the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just one point following the Blues' 0-0 draw away at Brentford.

Despite all the reasons to be positive, United's win was marred by Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to storm down the Old Trafford tunnel minutes before second-half stoppage time after Ten Hag decided to leave him as an unused substitute and not for the first time this term.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has only managed the full 90 minutes once this season and that came during the humiliating 4-0 away defeat at Brentford back in August.

His desire to leave has been well-documented and dates back as far as the summer, but Ronaldo has clearly had enough of playing second fiddle to Rashford who is seemingly growing more and more comfortable in the centre-forward role with each passing match-week.

Ten Hag admitted he will address the fact Ronaldo walked off during his post-match presser as he told Amazon Prime: "He was there, I have seen him but I didn't speak. I will deal with that tomorrow not today.

"We're celebrating this victory and now we have to recover and another big game on Saturday, Chelsea. The Premier League, so exciting."
