Marcus Rashford makes Man Utd wage demand to become Premier League's highest-paid star

Marcus Rashford is looking to land a new £500,000-a-week deal if he is to stay at Manchester United.

The forward's current contract will enter its final 12 months this summer and talks have been ongoing regarding his future, especially given he's set new personal and club records with his performances on the pitch. However, negotiations have stalled.

Rashford wants earnings that recognise that and is seeking to become the Premier League's highest paid player, ahead of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne. The ongoing potential sale of United has complicated matters and slowed down proceedings as the Englishman looks to cash in, reports the Daily Star.

The United man will turn 26 later this year and recognises that this contract is likely to be the most profitable of his career as he enters his peak years. Since the World Cup, few players in Europe have performed better than Rashford, who's helped United end their trophy drought.

He has no desire to quit the Red Devils as talks between the club and Rashford's representatives take place, albeit there remain several stumbling blocks. The Glazers are reluctant to offer out new contracts, especially one of this value, before the ownership saga has been resolved, with several parties wanting to take the Premier League club off their hands.

United know that there would be no shortage of interest in the Englishman, who has previously been on the radar of PSG and Barcelona. The Parisians offered a mammoth offer previously, but it was knocked back.

Erik ten Hag's rebuild could also impact Rashford's pay packet as the Dutchman is seeking to add a new No.9 in the summer. Harry Kane is thought to be top of his shortlist but will not come cheap as Tottenham fight to keep their talisman.

First-team stars Luke Shaw and David de Gea are also poised to be handed new deals as chiefs at Old Trafford try to balance their ambitions with a hefty wage bill. Last term, they spent almost £390million in that department, albeit Cristiano Ronaldo was at the club then.

Ten Hag previously said on Rashford's future: “I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first but also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football. He is improving and that is about him because he’s working on the good things. He is giving 100 per cent energy in it and he has a good plan and I think also in this team he can bring his qualities."
