Marco Tilio to Celtic transfer latest as terms 'agreed' over switch from Melbourne City

Celtic have agreed terms with Marco Tilio as his move from Melbourne City edges closer, according to a report.

Sky Sports claim paperwork over a deal for the 21-year-old is being finalised and the Hoops hope to have the transfer done and dusted this week. The Scottish champions are gearing up for a pre-season return under Brendan Rodgers with the Australian set to become the second summer arrival after the capture of Odin Thiago Holm.

Celtic won the Treble last season under Ange Postecoglou but he has since left for a crack at the English Premier League with Tottenham with a new era ready to begin under returning Rodgers - who left the club first time around in 2019 for Leicester City.

Tilio - who can play on both wings and also as a centre forward - netted nine times and provided six assists in 26 league outings last season and will provide another attacking option up top with star man Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeon-gyu on the books at present.

Speaking earlier this week his boss Rado Vidosic all but confirmed his imminent transfer by telling Fox News: “I doubt we will be able to keep him. He had a fantastic season for us.”

Rodgers and Co will be looking to defend their domestic clean sweep against a new look Rangers with Michael Beale currently going through an Ibrox summer rebuild.

Both clubs will discover their Scottish Premiership fixture card for the season on Friday morning including the Old Firm derby dates.

The duo could also both feature in the Champions League once again this season with Celtic already in the group stage due to their title triumph while the Light Blues will need to safely navigate two rounds of qualifying to join them at Europe's top table.
