Being an ex-footballer myself, you know when players are hiding and when they’re not up for it, you can see it a mile off.
In the upcoming transfer markets, Everton need to bring in players to the football club who are hungry to improve themselves and wear the shirt.
There seem to be a lot of players there now who seem happy to be at the level they’re at but not to improve and that won’t get you anywhere.
That’s all down to attitude and in my opinion these players are failing in that respect.
Even with the form that we’re in right now and the question marks over the manager and the players with the frustration of the fans, you’d expect a reaction at Wolves after Watford – from the start.
As soon as the game kicked off, you could see there was nothing there.
It was really disappointing and frustrating.
The whole situation was really poor. We had a bit of a go in the second half but again we’ve been reactive rather than proactive.
How many times have we started slow this season and who do you point the finger at?
These players have probably seen four managers off and the same questions keep getting asked.
They do well for a couple of games and we give them praise but when we sink, we sink badly.
Rafa Benitez has been dealt a really bad hand since he came to the club in terms of injuries and the amount of money he’s had to spend – or not spend – in the summer, but the style of football doesn’t suit them.
They can’t play possession football because they don’t have the ability or the confidence to do it – confidence-wise they look shot.
In that first half, we hardly got the ball in the final third. How are you expected to win football games without getting the ball into the opposition half?
Rafa must find a solution to it all. I thought he got it wrong with that formation in the first half.
Abdoulaye Doucoure is a man mountain and he does the running for two people so when he’s not there we need to pack that midfield.
We need to get an extra man in there and sacrifice a place somewhere else as we keep getting overrun.
One of the midfield pair was Jean-Philippe Gbamin who has come in for a lot of money and has had a difficult time with injuries to say the least.
I know what that’s like. It’s tough both mentally and physically.
He looked very slow and off the pace so it was no surprise that he got taken off after 45 minutes.
If he wants to make a name for himself he’s got to show a lot more.
I think playing two in midfield would have been a big ask even if he was fully fit.
Of course we're having to deal with yet another new face in the dugout and I’ve been there myself and being at a club where there’s a change of manager every season it’s difficult.
Each boss has got their own philosophy and way of going about football.
It can take time to fully understand what the manager and his coaches are demanding from you but we all know tactics only get you so far.
To succeed, it’s all about desire, leadership, willingness, that’s a given and should be there in abundance.
It looks like we’re lacking in that respect in so many departments.
A few individuals show it but they can’t do it by themselves, we need to be a team.
It’s like they’re not all singing from the same hymn sheet and that’s difficult to watch as a fan and it must be difficult for Rafa because he’s finding out the same kind of issues that the other managers had and which they’ve failed with, trying to get the best out of these players.
They’ve done it. Duncan Ferguson came in and got a reaction from the players and it got the fans up. They showed passion for the shirt but can they do it on a consistent basis?
Are these players up for the battle? I really doubt they are because we keep asking the same questions week on week, season after season.
They might do it once or twice but when it comes to consistency, they keep on failing.
Sven would have been fuming over Godfrey back pass
Wolves' second goal in the space of five minutes came from a bad back pass by Ben Godfrey of course and when you make a mistake like that you want the world to swallow you up but the key is how you react to it.
He was out of position, I understand that, but the amount of times we pass backwards and sideways is unbelievable.
I played under Sven-Goran Eriksson and he wasn’t a ranter and raver but he’d really have a go at you if you passed it back to your goalkeeper.
He’d tell us that our job as footballers was to find a team-mate in a better position.
We don’t seem to have an option when we receive the ball, it’s too slow and predictable and we’re not even going up the pitch.
Wolves, or indeed any opposition, just sit back and watch us make a mistake.
We all make mistakes, it happens. You need to learn from it and find out what you need to do so that doesn’t happen again.
Was he standing in the right position? Should he have asked for the ball in the first place?
Before you receive the ball you need to have a picture in your mind.
Good players have a picture in their mind before they receive the ball.
Don’t go backwards and sideways. Why are you going back to your goalkeeper?
Before you receive the ball you should know who you’re passing to straight away.
I played out of position many times in my career and you do get caught out at times.
Let’s make a mistake trying to score or put a cross in, not going backwards and sideways.
That’s too easy, it’s schoolboy football.
Make difficult for the opposition by trying to pass the ball forward and break the lines, that’s what you’re getting paid to do – not pass the ball backwards and sideways.
Fair enough if you’re two or three goals up but when you’re trying to win a game it’s copping out.
Spurs will get a Conte reaction - we need to get one as well
It’s a real tough time to be a Blue right now.
We’re on a difficult run and we’ve got the big games coming up.
Tottenham have brought in a top-class manager so they’re going to show a reaction.
Harry Kane’s not been on form but who are they playing next in the Premier League? Oh look it’s us!
We need to start games fast. Tottenham are going to want to come to Goodison Park and quieten the home fans but we’ve got to make it difficult for them.
They’re going through a bad time as well but they’re going to show a reaction and play for Antonio Conte and we’ve got to show that we’re up for the fight.
We’ve now got some more difficult teams away from home and big teams at Goodison and we need a reaction.
