Marathon to introduce night raids and more stat tuning in Season 2

While Marathon‘s launch is still a couple of days away, Bungie already shared a glimpse of what’s coming in the future seasons, including a night version of an existing map in Season 2.

In a blog post on March 3, alongside the details about Marathon Season 1, First Step, Bungie teased season 2, Nightfall. In Season 2, the UESC is increasing its security measures, and you’ll be able to fight the reinforcements on the night version of Dire Marsh, aka Night Marsh.

Nightfall also introduces the Cradle, a new system to give you more autonomy over your Runner Shell‘s statistical strengths and weaknesses, likely creating a new layer of buildcrafting on top of existing Cores and Implants. This is alongside regular seasonal additions, including the next Runner Shell, new weapons, mods, Cores, contracts, and more.

Still, Season 2 is months away, as the next stop is the game’s full launch on March 5, followed by Season 1. During Season 1, you get to explore Tau Ceti IV and eventually find a way aboard the UESC Marathon ship hanging in orbit. This is where the first endgame map, Cryo Archive, takes place.

It seems there might be a community event that unlocks the new map. The blog states: “Once the community unlocks the way into orbit, the fourth zone, Cryo Archive, will become available.” The content roadmap also shows the C.A.R.R.I event planned for Season 1, which may or may not be tied to it.

Cryo Archive should feature raid-like mechanics (for those of you who play Destiny), where you solve puzzles, unseal vaults, and fight an entity even the UESC fears. You can expect to find some of the rarest loot on this map, including Prestige Salvage.

In the second half of March, Ranked mode will become available. It features a Ranked ladder and exclusive seasonal rewards. Bungie promises more details regarding the Ranked mode closer to its launch.
