With passenger locator forms ditched and restrictions on those entering the UK finally removed, travel firms have welcomed the fact that the UK is now "open for business".
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced earlier this week that all remaining international travel restrictions would be lifted, and this came into force at 4am today. At the time, the Government said this was "a landmark moment for passengers and the travel and aviation sector".

Mr Shapps said: "I said we wouldn’t keep travel measures in place for any longer than necessary, which we’re delivering on today – providing more welcome news and greater freedom for travellers ahead of the Easter holidays. I look forward to continuing to work with the travel sector and partners around the world to keep international travel moving."
And the announcement was welcomed by the travel industry as a whole.
Julia Simpson, president and chief executive of the World Travel & Tourism Council, said: "Other countries ditched Passenger Locator forms weeks ago, but it is good news the UK government has now scrapped all travel restrictions for coming to the UK. If we are to compete on a world stage we need to be ‘open for business’’ and not ask people to fill in lengthy forms."
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, also welcomed the news, adding: "Two years after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the announcement marks international travel finally returning to normal. The removal of needless forms and ineffective testing regimes means that customers can at long last enjoy hassle-free travel, just like they did before the pandemic.
"With Easter just around the corner and summer fast approaching, this announcement comes at the perfect time. Since restrictions started to be eased at the beginning of the year, we have experienced strong, sustained demand and the complete removal of forms and requirements will boost that demand even further."
In another boost for airline passengers, Heathrow bosses announced those travelling through the airport will no longer be required to wear a face covering from March 16. Heathrow Chief Operating Officer Emma Gilthorpe said: " We’re gearing up for a busy summer travel season, and this change means we can look forward to welcoming our passengers back with a smile as we get them safely away on their journeys."
However Newcastle Airport is still recommending mask wearing within the terminal building, and asks passengers to check with their airline about what the requirements on board are.
